A Pass, best known as Alexander Bagonza, recently criticized the push for a copyright law amendment, labeling it as a “foolish” move for artists. He argued that revenue from copyright and royalties constitutes only a small fraction of an artist’s potential earnings.
“Even artists whose music appears in movies earn just pennies compared to those who achieve massive streams or hold shows,” A Pass explained. He emphasized that artists should focus on securing the freedom to perform without political ties. According to him, this freedom is essential for artists to truly benefit from their work.
A Pass pointed out that even artists from the Western world primarily earn through concerts and streaming, not from copyright revenue. “If you calculate, the money you get from copyright is the smallest amount an artist could ever get. Talking about copyright is one of the most foolish ways of viewing the industry,” he said.
In response to a question about Eddy Kenzo’s recent appointment as a Senior Presidential Advisor on Creatives, A Pass declined to comment. He expressed indifference toward their visit to the State House but urged the UNMF president to genuinely support the music industry. A Pass believes that artists should benefit from their music without any political strings attached.

Finally, by focusing on concerts and streams, A Pass believes that artists can maximize their earnings and safeguard their creative freedom. He encourages his peers to prioritize avenues that offer the most significant financial return and autonomy, rather than relying on copyright alone.
