Bebe Cool has ignited a storm on social media after mocking Bobi Wine’s recent injury. Last week, Bobi Wine, a musician and politician, was injured by a teargas canister during a police altercation. The incident left him hospitalized at Nsambya Hospital, and many Ugandan artists and political figures shared sympathy for him.
Fans of Bebe Cool expected a similar response from the Gagamel singer. However, instead of offering support, Bebe Cool shocked his followers by posting a TikTok-edited video, mocking Bobi Wine’s injury. The video featured Bebe Cool walking, suggesting that Bobi Wine was faking his pain. He added, “Nsambya hospital did not tell Bill which leg had been shot, yet he walks on the injured one.” This statement, translated from Luganda, further fueled the controversy.
Reactions were immediate. While some condemned Bebe Cool’s insensitivity, others found humor in the post. Many fans questioned the timing and appropriateness of his actions, especially when Bobi was still recovering. In contrast, fellow artist Jose Chameleone took a neutral stance. When approached by journalists in Kenya, he refused to comment, stating, “That’s Bobi Wine’s business, not mine.”
Bobi Wine, recently discharged from the hospital, addressed the situation at a press conference. He acknowledged his recovery but admitted that deep bone pain still persisted. He remains optimistic, stating that further tests would reveal the exact cause of his lingering pain.
