Ziza Bafana, the dancehall singer known for his energetic performances, has publicly criticized the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF). Speaking directly to journalists, he expressed his disappointment in the federation’s failure to support artists under its wing.
“The recent visit to the State House in Entebbe was pointless,” Bafana declared, highlighting that it benefited only a few individuals. He emphasized that the music industry, as a whole, did not gain anything significant from the trip. Bafana also praised Bobi Wine for his earlier comments regarding the federation’s spending. “Bobi Wine was right,” he said, pointing out that the extravagant spending at Hotel A’lure in Mutundwe was unnecessary.
According to Bafana, the Shs5 billion allocated to artists would have been better spent on building a permanent home for them, rather than renting expensive hotels. “It would be more meaningful if we invested in our own property,” he added, suggesting that a more practical approach could help artists in the long run.
Furthermore, Ziza Bafana expressed concerns about the UNMF Sacco money promised to artists. “What’s happening now is not what we were told,” he explained, revealing that artists now need to stake their property to access funds for their projects. This, according to him, was not part of the original agreement, and it places an undue burden on artists already struggling to make ends meet.
